Enrollment

Students at any level are welcome to enroll in lessons, beginner to advanced. The earliest age student that will be accepted is five years old. Adult students are also welcome. Any type of interest is welcome, those looking for a new hobby or students looking to develop professional level skills.

Instrument & Supplies

All piano students enrolling must have an instrument to practice on. A good quality instrument is an absolute necessity to develop healthy technique and to become an expressive musician. A well tuned acoustic piano is always the preferred instrument, however a good quality electric keyboard is also perfectly acceptable if it has 88 keys that are touch sensitive and weighted. For voice students, it is ideal to have a keyboard or piano at home but not required. All students will be asked to purchase a small amount of music books to use for their studies.

Practice

I am often asked, “How much does my student need to practice?” This answer is different for every student because of age differences, level differences, and learning style. The most important thing is that a student enrolling in music lessons has time available in their schedules to practice and is willing to commit to take time at home to practice several times a week.  By committing to a regular practice routine, whether that is 10 minutes a day or an hour a day, student’s skills and confidence in their capabilities will grow exponentially.

One of the things I emphasize in lessons is helping my students become invested in their at home practice. We do this by learning practice strategies, creating practice plans in lessons, and using self-evaluation of our playing. This creates students that are able to evaluate their playing at home and gives them the skills to be as successful as possible when practicing on their own.

Tuition & Fees

Before committing to weekly lessons, I encourage students to schedule a trial lesson.  This is to ensure we are a good fit as student and teacher and also to help me get to know your goals in music study and plan lessons and curriculum accordingly.  Trial lessons can be scheduled any time, are 30 minutes in length and there is a flat $30 fee for the trial lesson.

Once you have chosen to enroll, tuition is paid on a monthly basis. Most months will contain 4 weeks of lessons. Occasionally months will have fewer weeks taught, or will have 5 weeks of lessons and tuition will be adjusted accordingly.

Students must purchase their own music to be used in lessons. A general cost of music needed for lessons is $20-$40 a year, but this does vary by progress speed and level of the student. A music list will be provided for students to purchase upon enrollment.

Tuition rates for months with 4 weeks taught:

30 minute lessons- $120 monthly

45 minute lessons- $180 monthly

60 minute lessons- $240 monthly

Lesson Attendance

Lessons are scheduled weekly Monday through Thursday from 11:00AM PST- 7:00PM PST. By enrolling and paying tuition fees you are reserving your chosen lesson time slot for the month. Requests for specific lesson time assignments will be granted whenever possible, but are not guaranteed.

Make-up lessons are not offered. The only exception to this is if the lesson has been canceled by the teacher. If a full week’s notice is given for a conflict with a lesson time, rescheduling for a different lesson time during the week will be offered if any open lesson times are available. Reschedule is never guaranteed as it is on an as available level.

Withdrawal

A 30 day withdrawal notice is required in the unfortunate situation that a student decides to withdraw from lessons. Tuition is still due during this time even if lessons are not attended.
